Raising/Keeping of Chickens Permit Guide
Here is what you need to know prior to submitting your application.
Required lot size for a chicken coop:
- Minimum property size is 160,000 square feet.
How many chickens can be on the property:
- The maximum number of hens is six (6).
Placement of the chicken coop or pen structure:
- Pen and coop may only be in the rear yard of the property.
What do you need to submit for a chicken coop or pen permit?
- Complete an application
- Include a scale plan/survey with the coop and pen location.
- Provide dimensions and total size of coop and penned area. The coop must provide a minimum of four (4) square feet per hen and the pen must provide a minimum of eight (8) square feet per hen.
- Provide a description of the weather resistant materials for the construction on the coop and pen. The coop must be located on an impermeable surface. Coop doors must be able to be locked and windows and vents covered in predator proof wire of less than one-inch openings. The coop must be well ventilated.
